Chocolate Improves Memory

Summary: A study done by Nature Neuroscience had people aged 50 to 69 drink a cocoa flavor drink with high amounts antioxidants every day for 3 months. They brought the people back in who had the drink and they tested better in memory then those who did not have the drink. They estimated that the drink made the people have the memory of people two to three decades younger then them. Craig Stark, a neurobiologist in the experiment stated that the antioxidants in the cocoa drink caused the blood flow to increase,

Connection: We have talked about how antioxidants are good for you and also about loss of memory as people get older. This talks about how it gets more blood to your brain which keeps the ability to retain memories.

  1. I believe that chocolate is both healthy and unhealthy depening on the kind you eat. Chocolates and candy such as Kit-Kat or Hershey's is obviously mad for you because of the use of chemicals and unhealthy substances that can lead to diseases like diabetes. But, dark chocolate and organic chocolate can be healthy, if taken proportionally. The article mentions that chocolate provided better memory and I think drinks that are not filled with too many chemicals, like red and yellow dye, or unhealthy sugars, like high-fructose corn syrup,can be beneficial for the human body.

  3. I believe that can chocolate can be seen as healthy and unhealthy. I think it depends on what type of chocolate you eat. If you take Halloween candy chocolate it would be considered unhealthy because of the sugar and unhealthy chemicals or substances that can lead to diseases. Then, if you other kinds of chocolate like milk, dark, and white chocolate it can be healthy if you eat it in the right amounts. I believe that dark chocolate can be seen as healthy and unhealthy because in the article it states that people who took the chocolate drink had a better memory than those who didn't have the drink and that they had better memory than people who were younger than them.

  4. I think that like all foods, there are certain things about them that are both good and bad. For example, people always say no to eat fat or fats is so unhealthy, but fats are actually necessary for people to eat every once in while. The type matters as well, for instance, unsaturated fats vs. saturated fats are different like milk vs. dark may be. Like other foods, it is not healthy to eat too much of one thing but there are benefits to eating a small amount of it, therefor it depends on how you look at something to determine if it is healthy or not.

  5. Chocolate can be seen as healthy and unhealthy. It can be seen as healthy because it comes from beans. Chocolate can be seen as unhealthy because of the amount of sugars that it has. The sugars in chocolate can lead to many diseases such as diabetes, cholesterol, and weight gain. Also, chocolate reminds many people of their childhood which would have to do with their memories of people younger than them.

  6. Depending on the type of chocolate you eat it can be healthy or unhealthy. Chocolate can be unhealthy because it has fat and sugar in it. It can also become a reason for diabetes or obesity. It can be healthy like in protein bars and shakes. Its fine if you eat it every once in a while but every day can lead to weight problems and unhealthy habits. You can eat healthier chocolate like organic or low fat but it's really about how much you eat.

  7. It all depends on the type of chocolate and how much chocolate u consume, if u eat white chocolate everyday than it's unhealthy but if you consume with moderation, than it can be a really healthy source.

  8. I think that chocolate in moderation can be good for you. However, I think it also depends on the type of chocolate, the percent cocoa it is, and the amount of sugar it contains.

  9. I think that chocolate is healthy and unhealthy because chocolate has a lot of sugar, calories and fats. Like milk chocolate. Milk chocolate has a lot of sugar and has a bunch of calories. Chocolate is healthy like Dark chocolate. Dark chocolate is healthy is because it helps our digestive system, the main the thing that helps that is cacao. Overall i think chocolate is healthy and is okay to eat once in a while not all the time.

  10. I think specific kinds of chocolate are unhealthier than others because chemicals have been added to them to make it sweeter. Natural chocolate has its pros and cons but overall they're not filled with chemicals. Chocolates like kit kat, hersheys, and butter fingers are the ones that we should be concerned about.

  11. I think that it all depends on the type of chocolate you eat and how much you consume. Some chocolates contain a lot of sugar while other chocolates (that may not taste as good) can be healthy for you. I think that overall, chocolate is pretty healthy for you, and it is okay to eat some as long as it is not too much.

  13. I think that there are some types of chocolates that are healthy and some that are not. Some have a specific amount of sugar or how much cocoa it contains. It also depends on how much chocolate you eat. Some people view chocolate as healthy for their reasons and some view it as not for their reasons.

  14. I believe that it is still partly unhealthy due to the amounts of sugar, although it really depends on the type of chocolate. Dark chocolate would definitely be much healthier than milk or white chocolate (which doesn't even have cocoa in it) due to the less amounts of sugar. Although I doubt the sugar will stop people from eating it. I also believe showing good aspects of chocolate will give a better incentive to eating it.

  15. I beleive that it is still unhealthy because even tho there is new chocolate doesnt mean that it is probably the same from regular chocolate. There can be different writting and or labels but did it really change? I belive that all chocolate will be the same no matter new or old.

  16. I think that chocolate can be healthy or unhealthy depending on the amount you have. Obviously, there are chemicals on the chocolate that make it very unhealthy, but I think if you eat just a little is healthy.

  17. I think chocolate can be healthy, but only in certain amounts. For example a moderately sized glass of chocolate milk can be healthy, but too much chocolate can be very unhealthy. In chocolate, there are fairly unhealthy aspects, but there are also very important antioxidants

  18. I think that depending on how the chocolate was made, and the amount you eat determines if it is healthy or not. My great grandma just turned 98 years old and she has one piece of chocolate every day. So far, she has no issues with her memory and still tells us stories of things that have happened throughout her life. So, I do believe that chocolate has some very helpful aspects to it.

  19. In my opinion, I believe the ingredients inside the chocolate and the amount you take in are both very important factors when you are determining whether chocolate is healthy or not. Although recent research shows chocolate improves your memory, it doesn't mean that you can eat as many chocolate as you want as an excuse. It still has many side-effects such as gaining weight, and etc. You can still eat chocolate, but just not too much to a point where you start to gain weight.

  20. I think that chocolate is still bad for you, but if you take it proportionally it's not that bad. All those branded chocolates like Kit-Kat, Snickers, Crunch, etc. are obviously bad for you. Chocolates that are good for you are mainly dark chocolate.

  21. I believe that chocolate is still bad for you. It has sugar which can make you diabetic an obese. However, it also depends on what type of chocolate you buy. For example, milk chocolate has a lot more sugar in it than dark chocolate. Dark chocolate also has more antioxidants because it contains more cocoa. There is potential for chocolate to be healthy and it is in many ways such as having antioxidants. Although, it depends on what type you buy and where it was made.

  22. I think it really depends on the type of chocolate you are eating, because dark chocolate is much better than the stuff like milky way or marzipan. I think that if you have enough knowledge about what you are actually eating you will make better choices. Overall I think that most chocolate is unhealthy because it is being polluted with other ingredients like corn syrup and sugar etc. where as pure dark chocolate is free of most other chemicals so people should stop making unhealthy chocolate and start making healthier treats.

  23. i don't know if i should consider it unhealthy because everything they have been saying about it says that its not but other people say that it is in my opinion i think excessive chocolate is bad but a little portion of chocolate is not going to n=be considered unhealthy

  24. I think with all the new information coming out that chocolate can be healthier for kids but more useful for seniors (50-70). The reason is because kids have a new healthy, developing brain for the fact that they are young. Also the sugar probably digested more faster. As for people in their older ages chocolate can be more unhealthier from all the sugar and other products it has in it. Although it can be more helpful to them because its let then have better memory.

  25. I have always heard that antioxidants were good fofr the body b ut I didn't know that they improve memory. But it also depends on what kind of chocolate you consume. If you eat a hersheys milk chocolate bar it won't do much for you because it has a lot of fat. But if you eat dark chocolate it will probably provide more nutrients than milk chocolate because of its higer percentage of real chocolate.(Less fat, sugar and calories).
